When is it considered a minor water - Why you should nominate your section of River for designation under the NWPA regulations
Over a 200 meter section if two of the three following conditions exist
1. The width is between 1.2 and 3 meteres
and
2. The slope over 200 meters is over 4 percent
and
3. the number of natural obstacles is two or more as trees, rocks, beaver dams or so forth.
If the section is a minor water, then dams, weirs, pipelines, and so forth can be installed without any reference to an environmental assessment. NWPA orders allow applicants to be exempt from the NWPA approvals process.
2 km stretch, madawaska canoe camp, MKC, various classes, need specifically - Canoe/Kayak canada proposes a set of criteria
-whether it has hosted provincially or nationally sanctioned competitions
-river ralies
-published in an established paddling organizations trip schedules
(designated list may not make it into the regulations - March 2011)
The final draft of the regulatiosn much go to Treasury Board by August 2nd.
