Game Theory
Sometimes answering a question directly is a loose-loose situation. "Do you still beat your wife?" If it is true, you loose, if it is false, you lose because you have accepted the premise of the question which is false. The strongest card there is to say that it is a coincidence (in a situation where that’s true) and you’re not going to admit it was true if it is true. Don't try to explain in depth why it wasn’t true. This could be seen to be protesting too much and adds more words to scrutinise and to trip up on. Why give more credence to a damaging accusation, which is damaging even if false. It is sometimes fair enough to refuse to answer a particular question. It should be expected that a person will not answer another’s accusations directly and get into an uncontrollable direct battle of words.
