Here is a collection of videos that have been done by various artists to crystalize their concerns about the environment, knowing, that words alone seldom have the impact of poetry or song to embed the human mind with consternation.
To start:.... Danny Michel: Feather Fur and Fin
The message: every little critter, feather fur and fin, she cried for everything, every piece of litter, every little sin
Joni Mitchel: the classic "They Paved Paradise" Big Yellow Taxi
The message: "don't it always seem to go ... that you don't know what you've got... til its gone!"
The classic Eagles tune: the last resort
Bruck Cockburn takes a turn with "if I had a rocket launcher"
The message has to do with those in power and those who are powerless
Bruce has combined musicality with message: if a tree falls in the forest... doesn't anybody hear?
One of my favorites: Nothing but Flowers with the Talkin' Heads
Just because its about the environment and what's "going on" doesn't mean that it has to be preachy or dischordant.
David Bowie nails it with Arcade Fire doing "Five Years"
The message is that the earth could do away with humankind in short order: its not a given that our spaceship earth will always be here for us.
The end of the world as we know it EOTWAWKI is encapsulated in this REM video complete with Hollywood simulation: Its scarey people. The message: Once there were dinosaurs, and once there were people.
So millions of people have tuned in and turned on to Pharrell Williams "Happy". If you can't do anything, if you feel powerless in the face of the big machine: well, go along for the ride.
